Created by the Romans, the old city wall still exists and dates back to 200AD, and at the centre of this beautiful city is the amazing Exeter Cathedral. Exeter has underground passages (these are the only passages of this kind open to people in Britain!). This is surrounded by a lovely park and green area, which is perfect for enjoying drinks and snacks with friends and relaxing in the convivial, friendly atmosphere.

There are excellent shopping facilities with everything from boutique to department store shopping. And you are never far from a local café or restaurant to have a break or meet with friends.

It is easy to move around, everything is in walking distance and it is a very attractive city to spend time in.

There is something for everyone, with theatres and cinemas, the Arts Centre, museum, and all kinds of restaurant options and lots of options for different free-time activities.

The city is also great for outdoor activities, with walks and cycle routes, canoeing and climbing centres, as well as the ancient river town of Topsham just 15 minutes and the coastal town of Exmouth with its golden beaches just 25 minutes away by train or bus.   

Exeter is known as the city in the country. It is just one hour from Bristol and two hours or so from London. So, you can easily organise day or weekend trips there.

Exeter is home to the Exeter Chiefs rugby team – who won the 2020 European Cup. To have the best rugby club so close is just amazing – and we can get you tickets to watch and a memorable day out. The stadium for Exeter City football team is just 10 minutes’ walk from the Academy – so you can watch main league soccer too!

Unlike bigger built up cities, you can easily access a wide range of sporting facilities – including golf, tennis, walking, football pitches, cycling, canoeing, climbing, swimming, sailing, surfing, wind-surfing, wild hiking, and local gyms.  

Visit the colourful markets and explore a gallery or show. At the weekend, spend a leisurely day with shopping and entertainment in Princesshay, events at the Exeter Phoenix, or exhibits at the award-winning Royal Albert Museum.

Exeter has an incredible 12th century cathedral, with the longest roof of its type in the world. Free guided tours allow you to explore the fascinating past of this famous city, from Roman ruins and medieval tunnels to ghosts, kings, queens and famous criminals.

A cultured and interesting city, with a vibrant and interesting atmosphere. You will fit in very quickly and feel safe. The University of Exeter is one of the top universities in the UK and adds to the vibrancy of this dynamic city.
